A lot of people notice my unique designs and ask where my inspiration comes from so I thought it would be useful write a short blog on what inspires my artwork and products.
Having lived in Gomersal, West Yorkshire all my life, I am constantly inspired by the beautiful Yorkshire landscape. I love the fact that it is so diverse, from the geometry of its vibrant cities, the rugged east coast and the vastness of the Yorkshire Dales and the multitude of flowers that live in all of the different areas. I enjoy combining these different elements in my work and picking out interesting details in rural and urban environments to translate into patterns to use in the different pieces that I create.
Not only do I create textile artwork, prints and products designed with beautiful Yorkshire flowers and birds commonly found in the region, I also love using Yorkshire lavender within some of my products such as my, lavender bags and keyrings. This makes a truly unique, handcrafted item which offers a delicate scent as well as being a lovely treat in the home or bunch of keys.
Our differing seasons also inspire much of my work, from stunning bright colours in summer –such as my poppies artwork and my recently launched jersey silk scarves, in an ‘autumn berries’ range which, comprises different elements from autumnal hedgerows in my trademark style, has come from intricate screen prints and features shades of grey, teal, coral pink and white.
