The English Heritage Grade II Listed Garden situated in regal Low Harrogate is captured in this vibrant, busy piece of work, bursting with colour that combines both screen-printing and devoré techniques. The artwork portrays elements of the Sun Pavilion and Colonnades sitting alongside a wide variety of shrub, flower and herbaceous beds. The roses climbing around the perimeter of the gardens were so beautiful and vibrant I wanted these to be the centrepiece of the design. Everything else grew around them; from the geometric elements of ironwork, to the flowing sweet peas echoing the movement of the visitors around the paths.
My aim was to fill the canvas with as many of the elements of the gardens and beyond as I could, playing with scale to achieve this and showing the location of the gardens in Harrogate by the buildings in the skyline.
The finished work measures approximately 100cm x 70cm and is stretched around a 4cm deep canvas and signed on the reverse.
